Transcript: Curley called DiMaso a “Staten Island Guinea”
Disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley
The report prepared by retired Acting Supreme Court Justice Mary Catherine Cuff states that disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley referred to Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso as a “Staten Island Guinea,” according to the transcript of federal court proceedings Curley has brought against Monmouth County. DiMaso was a Monmouth County Freeholder at the time that Curley said “that Staten Island guinea” and “I ought to stab her with my insulin pack.”
Staten Island is the New York City borough where DiMaso was raised. “Guinea” is a derisive ethnic slur that refers to people of Italian heritage. The slur is derived from “Guinea Negro” a term that referenced Blacks or people of mixed ancestry from Guinea, the African country in West Africa. The term is “the most vile” one can call an Italian, according to Urban Dictionary, and is used as a slur for Italians because of many of them have darker skin than Anglo Saxons/Germans, according to the Racial Slur Database.
“Mafia” is a more offensive Italian slur, according to the many writings on Tommy DeSeno.
Monmouth County has a relatively high concentration of residents of Italian heritage; 23.2% of the population according the the 2000 U.S. Census, including 5,930 native Italian speakers in 2015, according to DataUSA. Three of the five Monmouth County freeholders, Director Tom Arnone, Deputy Director Lillian Burry and Freeholder Pat Impreveduto are of Italian descent. Four of the four Monmouth County Constitutional Officers, Sheriff Shaun Golden, Surrogate Rosemarie Peters, Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon and Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni are of Italian descent.
Curley has left the Republican Party and is seeking signatures for nominating petitions to run as an Independent candidate for reelection. He has until June 5 to find 100 misogynists and anti-Italian bigots to sign his nominating petition. MMM will publish his petition and the signatures, if he makes it.

When will this guy think of the people of the county and resign? It is sad to see but it was all brought on by his crazy behavior and attitude toward workers. He would be so much better off if he stepped down and worked on repairing his damaged reputation. Instead he’s going to sit there and let this stuff play out in public.
