Mehta limps to victory in U.S.Senate primary

Now that all the votes that are going to be counted have been delivered, it looks as though Rik Mehta has survived his own embarrasing campaign and a spirited clown show by Hirsh Singh to win the Republican nomination of U.S. Senate.

There are late arriving and provisional ballots yet to be counted, but Mehta’s 11,290 vote margin against Singh will probably hold.

Gary Rich endorses Tricia Flanagan

Former U.S. Senate candidate Gary Rich endorsed Tricia Flanagan for the nomination to take on Cory Booker in November, according to reports on NewJerseyGlobe and InsiderNJ.

“Conservatives in the Republican party need to speak with one voice, and after meeting Tricia Flanagan, I have decided that hers is the voice is the voice that speaks most clearly and powerfully for the principles that compel me to run,” Rich said. Read the rest of this entry »

Meissner forms exploratory committee for 2020 U.S. Senate race

Stuart Meissner, an attorney from Bergen County, announced today that he has formed an exploratory committee for the 2020 GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Cory Booker.

Booker, a Democrat candidate for the 2020 nomination to lose to President Trump, has not yet indicated if he will also seek reelection to the Senate.  Under a recent law signed by Governor Phil Murphy, it is now legal for a former Newark mayor to run for Senate and either President or Vice President simultaneously.

Meissner has run against Booker previously.  He was an Independent candidate in the 2013 special election that Governor Chris Christie scheduled for August to fill the vacancy which resulted upon the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg,  Meissner ran on a platform on alimony reform, according to NJ.com
