Middletown Mayor Tony Perry is expected to be selected to serve a third consecutive year as the leader of the Township when the governing body reorganizes in a virtual meeting on Sunday, January 3 at 10 a.m.
While I could say the last few weeks have been very busy, the truth of the matter is that the County stays busy around the year with ongoing projects and initiatives.
Earlier this month, I had the honor of joining Middletown
Mayor Tony Perry and the Middletown Committee, as well as, Congressman Chris
Smith at a press conference hosted by Middletown to launch their Economic
Relief Program to assist their small businesses impacted by COVID-19.
Middletown Mayor Tony Perry announced that his wife Alannah is pregnant. The first child of the couple is due in August, the mayor said during a Quarantine Edition interview with Sophia Haber Brock.
In the 19 minute interview with Brock, a 10th grade student at Middletown High School North, Perry also discussed juggling his full time employment with Hackensack-Meridan Health with being mayor, the Township’s interaction with County, State and Federal officials in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and he praised the selfless work on New Jersey’s medical workers and first responders.
Atlantic Highlands activist Joshua Leinsdorf says that Route 36 in Atlantic Highlands, Highlands and Middletown has a higher per capita pedestrian death rate tham Newark and he wants our elected officials to come together to solve the problem rather than blaming other agencies has they have for years.

The Middletown Township Committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to acquire a blighted commercial property on Leonardville Road in Belford and to build 10-20 affordable housing units for veterans in partnership with the Middletown Housing Authority.
The property at 37-45 Leonardville Road, across the street from the Carvel Ice Cream store, was previously the home of Middletown Tool Rental and a gas station before that. It has been vacant and overgrown for roughly 20 years. The Township acquired a certification from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection that the property is not contaminated prior to approving the acquisition.
Tony Perry is expected to be elected to a second consecutive year as mayor of Middletown when the Township Committee reorganizes on Sunday, January 5 at 10 am at Town Hall.
Tony Fiore will serve as Deputy Mayor of the Township for the sixth time since he joined the Committee in 2009.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to build on all we accomplished in 2019 and provide our residents with the fiscally responsible government they have come to expect,” said Mayor Perry. “This has been an extremely productive year and the Township Committee and I will continue to seek innovative solutions that will lead Middletown into the next decade and not shy away from the pressing issues that impact our community.”
MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Last week the Middletown Township Committee directed its attorneys to withdraw from court proceedings that commenced in July 2015 to address unrealistic affordable housing obligations imposed upon municipalities throughout New Jersey by the Supreme Court. On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, the Township Attorney applied for an Order of Dismissal, which was entered by the Hon. Jamie S. Perri on July 19, 2019.
As a result of the demise of the New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing (“COAH”), municipalities have been subjected to proceedings in Superior Court to address ongoing and ever-increasing demands by the Fair Share Housing Center (“FSHC”) to develop more high density affordable housing. Tony Perry, 28, will become the youngest mayor in Middletown’s history when the Township Committee meets on Sunday to reorganize for 2019, according to an announcement by the Township.
Perry was elected to a three year term on the Township Committee last Election Day. He has been a member of the Committee since November of 2017 when he was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Steve Massell resigned upon taking office on the Monmouth County Tax Board.
