Monmouth County has been awarded $1.6 million in federal funds from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) for the design and construction of road improvements in Holmdel and and Upper Freehold, according to an announcement by Freeholder Director Tom Arnone. The award was approved at a NJTPA meeting in Newark this morning.
A team of trained volunteers and Monmouth County employees will be in Asbury Park, Freehold, Keansburg and Red Bank on Wednesday, January 24 to conduct the County’s NJ Counts 2018 survey of citizens without a permanent residence and those at risk for becoming homeless. The point in time survey is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s annual effort to get an accurate snapshot of the homeless in America.

Federal prosecutors say they intend to retry U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez on political corruption charges. Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ4) presented U.S. Navy veteran Bill Kelly with a U.S. Flag which had flown over the Capitol during a celebration of the WWII hero’s 93rd birthday earlier this week at the Claremont Center in Pt. Pleasant.
Kelly served on the U.S.S. Laffey during World War Two. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received in battle on board the ship on April 16, 1945, when the Laffey endured a large-scale kamikaze air attack by Japanese planes. Read the rest of this entry »
