Monmouth GOP to run 3 women against Gopal, Downey and Houghtaling

The Monmouth County Republican Committee will run a slate of three women against Senator Vin Gopal and Assembly members Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling in the 11th Legislative District, Chairman Shaun Golden announced this morning.

Lisa Annetta of Freehold Borough will seek to unseat freshman Senator Vin Gopal. Marilyn Piperno of Colts Neck and Kim Eulner of Shrewsbury will seek to deny Downey and Houghtaling fourth terms in the Assembly.

The 11th is the only district in Monmouth County with more registered Democrats than Republicans.

DiMaso will seek reelection

Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso announced this morning that she is seeking a third term representing the 13th Legislative District in the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature.

DiMaso touts a record of accomplishment, leadership and fiscal conservatism in her announcement. “Her record is witness to a public servant who takes action to serve the people of the district,” her campaign’s announcement declared.”

Victoria A Flynn, President of the Holmdel Board of Education, announced yesterday that she is seeking the Republican nomination for the LD 13 Assembly seat currently held by two term Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso.

DiMaso, also of Holmdel, has not yet announced if she is seeking reelection, running for another office or not running for office in 2021.

Cittarelli winning the Reorgs

GOP gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli and Middletown Mayor Tony Perry celebrate Middletown’s reorganization on January 3, 2021

Municipal reorganizations are a big deal for New Jersey elected officials, especially during a gubernatorial election year. Newly elected and reelected mayors, council and committee members, and fire chiefs are celebrated and their families are thanked by their communities for their sacrifice. The new officials make optimistic speeches about the future of the communities and big shots from state and county government show up to issue the Oaths of Office and pose for pictures.

In 2009 former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie, not yet a declared candidate for Governor, was all over New Jersey swearing in mayors and council members on January 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. His first stop was Middletown where he issued the Oath of Office to newly elected Committeeman Tony Fiore as Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger looked on.
