Organ Music Returns to Sea Bright June 4th

Charlie Rooney Organ Libray (800x783)June 4th is the first Saturday of the month and that means that the organ in the Sea Bright Library/United Methodist Church will once again be making beautiful music, thanks to the efforts of Councilman Charlie Rooney.

When Rooney was working with the Sea Bright United Methodist Church to have them host the borough’s library after Hurricane Sandy, he was struck with the beauty of the chapel and especially the pipe organ that majestically rises behind the altar.

Rooney learned that an organ’s pipes will deteriorate if they are not played, and the church’s organ wasn’t being used much. To preserve organ and enhance the community, Rooney arranges for an organist to play for an hour on the first Saturday of every month.

Toni Ann Marletta, the 50 year old women accused of killing Marissa Procopio, 15, of Atlantic Highlands, in a hit and run incident on Route 36 in Leonardo last July, had cocaine and alcohol in her system at the time of her arrest.

Danielle Procopio, Marissa’s mother, said that investigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middletown Police Department shared the results of a toxicology report with her prior to Marletta’s indictment for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.

In an interview with MMM, Danielle said she is frustrated that Marletta is not being charged with vehicular homicide.

Howell Farm Preserved

Thompson farm HowellMonmouth County, Howell Township and the New Jersey State Agricultural Development Committee have purchased the development rights of Thompson Farm, 49 Howell Rd, through the State’s Farmland Preservation Program. The $1,158,268 transaction ensures that the 68-acre farm will be devoted to agricultural use.

“Preserving farmland and acquiring open space are two critical pieces of protecting our environment and retaining its natural character,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry. “It is no coincidence that Thompson farm is adjacent to Meade farm, which was the first farm preserved in Monmouth County 29 years ago. Mr. Thompson’s heirs are to be commended for honoring their father by protecting the land on which he toiled for many years.”

The Arnone Report: Memorial Day Weekend Was a Great Summer Kickoff

By Freeholder Director Tom Arnone

Freeholders Tom Arnone and Serena DiMaso with County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon and Sheriff Shaun Golden at the Farmingdale Memorial Day Parade

What an incredible Memorial Day weekend! It was the perfect setting to remember and honor those that have served our country, and those that continue to protect us today.  We recognize those individuals who sacrificed to provide us with the freedoms we enjoy every day – we are the land of the free, because of the brave.

I would have loved to have attended all of the parades throughout the county, but unfortunately I could not do so as several of them are at the same time, so I attended as many as I could.  I had the honor of walking in the Bradley Beach and Union Beach parades on Saturday, as well as the Matawan parade on Sunday. Monday was a very busy day, as I attended the memorial ceremonies for the Freehold, Oceanport, and Ocean Township; and then walked in the jammed packed Farmingdale parade. The attendance and welcome received this weekend at all the events was overwhelming.
