Harry Wolfmuller, 70, formerly of Belmar, admitting embezzling $1,175,720 over eight years from the orthopedic medical practice where he was Chief Financial Officer, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick.

A U.S. Coast Guard heavy weather boatcrew from the Sandy Hook station rescued four men from a boat in the Raritan Bay near Keansburg this afternoon, according to a release from the Guard’s New York Detachment.

Toni Ann Marletta, the woman who struck and killed 15 year old Marissa Procopio of Atlantic Highlands on Route 36 in Leonardo on July 7, 2015 and left the scene, will be resentenced for the crimes she pleaded guilty to on December 15.
A two-judge panel of the Court’s Appellate Division vacated Marletta’s 7 year sentence for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident and 4 year sentence for Endangering the Welfare of a Child on October 25, according to a report published by The Monmouth Journal. The Appellate Court ruled that the Trial Court shall not consider one of the aggravating factors of the case and shall consider two mitigating factors in the resentencing. Election night we listened to pundit after pundit (some admitting they know little about the 11th District) proclaim Vin Gopal’s victory over Senator Jen Beck was an “upset.” Nothing could be further from the truth. Every indicia of prognostication said Vin Gopal was the favorite, and it starts with the previous census.
I’ve lamented for some time that voting in “districted elections” is like not voting at all. After each census, 10 political big shots, 5 from each party, meet in a hotel room and draw crazy lines that allow them to divvy up the state between the two parties. Democrats having an advantage in this state, their “map” wins, by an 11th man tiebreaker. This is followed by us sheep doing our civic duty and voting even though the pols already stacked the demographic deck. The winning party acts like it was political prowess that won them the election, when in fact the day was won in the hotel room where the map is drawn every 10 years.
