The Monmouth County Conference of PBA Delegates, representing 39 Law Enforcement agencies with over 2,000 Law Enforcement Officers in the County, has endorsed Ross Licitra for Monmouth County Freeholder.
Licitra is the Executive Director and Chief Humane Officer of the Monmouth SPCA, a position he took after a long career as a law enforcement officer.
Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian G. Burry has submitted the required petitions to seek the Monmouth County Republican Committee’s endorsement for her 6th term on the Board.
First elected in the wake of U.S. Attorney Chris Christie’s Operation Bid Rig II in 2005, Burry has been a leader in the transformation of Monmouth County government and the Monmouth GOP from a corrupt swamp to a beacon of good government. In 2005 , the Asbury Park Press had an ongoing investigative series, Club Monmouth, into the wasteful patronage of Monmouth County government. This year, the APP editorial board said, “It isn’t easy finding major weaknesses in the way the county has been run in recent years. Spending has been kept in check and the county has maintained a triple-A bond rating. It takes shared services between towns seriously and it has made concerted efforts to improve the climate for small businesses. The county also has one of the finest park systems in the state.” Lillian Burry has been a huge contributor to the reforms which warranted those accolades from a critical source. Freehold, NJ- The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #30, Monmouth County Superior Officers’ Association, supports the reelection of Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry announced the association’s president, Shawn Reece.
“Public Safety is one of the most important functions of county government,” Reece said. “Freeholder Director Burry has always recognized that truth and as the liaison to the Sheriff’s Office has made sure that our members have the support, training and resources we need to keep Monmouth County a safe and secure place to live and raise our families. The Monmouth-Ocean Development Council (MODC) recognized Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry’s many contributions to the quality of life and economy of the Jersey Shore Region on Thursday evening when they presented her the President’s Award at their 52nd annual Silver Gull Awards Dinner.
MODC is a business advocacy and networking group that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and business environment in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. MODC’s members include hundreds of influential business, community and government leaders representing diverse groups through the bi-county region.
“Freeholder Director Burry has made a powerful and positive impact on the quality of life and the vitality of our region,” said MODC Executive Director Ben Waldron. “We are proud to honor her ongoing leadership in revitalizing our region while preserving our history and open space.”
Freeholder Lillian G. Burry will be named Director of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholder when the Board holds its annual reorganization meeting on January 5 at 4 p.m. at Biotechnology High School, 5000 Kozloski Rd. in Freehold Township.
Freeholder John P. Curly will be named Deputy Director.
The five member Freeholder Board chooses their Director and Deputy Director annually for a one year term. The Director presides over Board meetings and signs contracts for the county.
The question of new casinos will be on the November ballot, and I believe it’s a good idea, but only if done the right way. Like any business, the casino industry needs to build on existing resources and use potential synergies to its advantage. This means taking advantage of existing betting sites. I’m talking about the racetracks – the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park and Freehold Raceway. These tracks strike the perfect balance between the desires to expand gambling and keep it contained. The tracks are experienced in handling gambling and have everything from the technology to parking in place. These are the only places where we don’t have to reinvent the wheel, and there’s more to it than that.
Folks get ready, it’s that time of year again, and the 42nd Annual Monmouth County Fair is set to get underway. Once again you can enjoy all the wonderful fun activities that have become synonymous with the Monmouth County Fair. Congratulations to the Monmouth County Parks system and the Monmouth County 4-H Association for leaving no stone unturned. This year’s fair will prove to be one that you surely will not want to miss, and it will run from Wednesday to Sunday, July 27 – 31 delivering excitement for the entire family. From the 4-H shows & exhibits, home and garden competitions and horse shows to the games, rides and live entertainment, it is guaranteed to be a great time. Additionally, you can expect to see crafters and commercial vendors. You will have many opportunities to sample some delectable food, as well as have an opportunity to make purchases from the farm stands that will be featuring local produce. There is even a climbing wall! I encourage everyone to come out to the Monmouth County Fair and be prepared to be totally entertained with lots of laughs and good surprises along the way.

I would like to tie it into my life.
Confidence, Courage , Character.
These are three things that start growing in the heart of every girl from the day she is born. If she is lucky, she has them nurtured by parents and family and friends. But just like muscles, these qualities must be exercised regularly if they’re to become strong and certain. Fortunately, life affords us regular chances.
In a county as large and diverse as Monmouth County new issues arise for the Freeholders on almost a daily basis. Fortunately, most also come with a very clear and simple resolution as well and so are dealt with almost as quickly as they come. Then there are a few issues that are not that simple. These tend to be ones that place two or more fundamental commitments of government in conflict with one another. Determining the future of our care centers is just such a complex issue.
Good governments mirror the values of the societies that establish them. Compassion for the most vulnerable among us is a fundamental value of our society. From their origins as tuberculosis hospitals through their evolution as nursing homes into more sophisticated care centers our two facilities have met this moral obligation in Monmouth County.
