Governor Chris Christie, in an interview yesterday in New Hampshire, told IJReview that the controversy over New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady using deflated balls in the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts last January is “way way overblown.”
Christie said that no one thinks that Brady won four Super Bowls and is a future Hall of Famer because his balls were deflated a little bit. Rather, the controversy is getting all the media attention it is because Brady is married to a beautiful model and is richer than you an imagine.
It was just four years ago that Gov. Chris Christie and Democrats in the Legislature struck a deal on a bipartisan plan to address years of underfunding the public-employee pension system. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush would both take New Hamsphire’s 4 electoral votes over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if the presidential election were today, according to Dartmouth University’s eighth annual State of the State Poll.
Walker beats Clinton 38.7 % – 34.8%. Bush beats Clinton 36.9 – 34.14%.
Clinton would beat Governor Chris Christie 36.5% – 34.4%.
The poll has a margin of error of +/- 5.2%, so Walker, Bush, Christie, and all other Republicans polled except Ted Cruz are virtually tied with Clinton. Clinton beat Cruz by by more than ten points. In all the head to head match-ups against Clinton, 30% of the voters are undecided. This poll is meaningless and I’m only writing about it because I haven’t gotten a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office today and don’t have a click baiting crime story to post.
New Jerseyans would rather see former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush or Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker elected president in 2016 than their own Governor Chris Christie, according to a Monmouth University Poll released this morning.
“The message from New Jersey voters seems to be as simple as ABC – anybody but Christie,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
In fairness to Christie, it should be noted that Murray did not poll the Governor’s presidential bona fides against former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Frank Pallone, Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik, Freeholder John Curley, Monmouth Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal or Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
Christie isn’t even New Jersey Republicans first choice to the president. By 44%-30% New Jersey Republicans prefer Walker to Christie in 2016.

Only 23 % of New Jersey residents think Governor Chris Christie has been completely honest regarding his involvement in and knowledge of the Bridgegate affair, according to a Monmouth University Poll released this morning. 69%, including 52% of New Jersey Republicans, think Christie is being less than completely honest.
“The governor has maintained that he was not involved in the lane closures nor did he know about them as they were happening. Most New Jerseyans don’t buy it,” said Patrick Murray, Executive Director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Half of New Jersey residents, 52% of registered voters, think Christie was personally involved in the George Washington Bridge Lane closures during his reelection campaign in September of 2013. Only 34% think he was not personally involved.

Governor Chris Christie’s Office released the following statement in response to today’s guilty plea by David Wildstein, the indictments of former Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni and Bridget Ann Kelly, Christie’s former Deputy Chief of Staff, as well as U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman’s press conference:
Governor Christie has said from day one that he had no knowledge or involvement in the planning, motivation, authorization or execution of the decision to realign lanes on the George Washington Bridge. After fifteen months and three independent investigations, including those conducted by a partisan, Democratic-led joint committee and an outside law firm, that conclusion remains unchanged.
The key facts that came to light in the first quarter of 2014 have not changed in any material way, more than a year later. The individuals alleged to be responsible and facing charges today are David Wildstein, Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly, and they were all separated from the Port Authority and the Governor’s Office more than 15 months ago.
