NJEA endorses DiMaso in LD13

Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso are the GOP candidates for Assembly in LD13

The New Jersey Education Association has endorsed Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, R-Holmdel for reelection to the General Assembly representing the 13th legislative district.

The teachers union issued a * endorsement for the second Assembly seat in the district, encouraging teachers to vote for either Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger, R-Middletown or Barbara Singer, a Democrat and attorney who lives in Holmdel, to replace Amy Handlin the lower chamber. Scharfenberger in no rush to decide which office he will seek next year

Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger takes the Oath of Office on Feb 3.

Freeholder Gerry Scharfenberger will be running for office again in 2019.  He will either seek his own full term on the Freeholder Board, having been elected to complete Assemblywoman Serena Dimaso’s term last month, or he will seek the Assembly seat being vacated by Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-Middletown).

Democrats in the running for Handlin’s Assembly seat

Josh Welle and Amber Gesslein could run for the Dem nominations for Assembly in LD 13 next year.

Assemblywoman Amy Handlin’s announcement that she will not seek reelection next year inevitably creates speculation on who will run to replace her. While party leaders on both sides of the aisle would rather their troops stay focused on the election coming up next month, the jockeying has started given how infrequently a vacancy occurs in the 13th district.

Democrats, who normally lose badly in the district will likely have a contest for the two Assembly nominations next year, given Handlin’s vacancy and Serena DiMaso serving her freshman term.  DiMaso put something of a target on her back with the Dems when she made a robocall criticizing LD 11 Assemblymembers Eric Hougtaling and Joann Downey for voting for Governor Murphy’s tax increases.  Houghtaling and Downey responded to DiMaso’s robocall with an ethics complaint.

With the Assembly on top of the ballot next year, Dems will likely be motivated and funded, even in LD 13.

More Ugly Nonsense In Atlantic Highlands GOP Primary

Atlantic Highlands Councilman Stephen Boracchia took to facebook yesterday evening and demonstrated why the Regular Republicans, who have been controlling the local party for the last several years, have lost 4 of the last 5 contested municipal offices.

Boracchia impugned the integrity of the Monmouth County Republican Organization team of candidates for promoting the fact that they do indeed have the support of the Monmouth County Republican Organization.  Boracchia, who’s wife is a Regular Republican candidate for County Committee in District 4, implied that his military service makes him a good arbiter of other people’s integrity, while he inaccurately stated that the Monmouth County Republican Organization slogan is not an endorsement. Election Day Predictions 2017

Kim Guadagno will be elected the 56th Governor of New Jersey by less than 2000 votes.

The Associated Press will not call the NJ gubernatorial race until Thursday due to the failure of the vote reporting systems in Essex, Hudson, Camden and Middlesex counties which will prevent the vote from being counted.  CNN and NJ.com will report rumors that the New Jersey election was hacked by the Russians.

Steve Sweeney will survive the millions spent against his reelection by the NJEA.  The teachers’ union will lose considerable influence in Trenton and its membership will revolt against leadership and reform the association.  Guadagno and Sweeney will have a stronger and more effective reform agenda than Christie and Sweeney had during the first Christie’s term. NJ Democrat Operative Advocates Hunting Republicans

James Devine, a well known New Jersey Democrat operative and local newspaper publisher from Union County, responded to the shooting of Congressman Steve Scalise and three others yesterday by creating the hashtag #HuntRepublicans and #HuntRepublicanCongressmen on his social media accounts.  Devine declared that Democrats are “in a war” with Republicans.

Marchese drops out of LD 13 Assembly race, Endorses Handlin and DiMaso

Fair Haven Councilman Bob Marchese

Fair Haven Councilman Bob Marchese told MMM that he will not submit his Letter of Intent to run for Assembly in the 13th legislative district and that he is throwing his support behind incumbent Assemblywoman Amy Handlin and Freeholder Serena DiMaso.

“We are fortunate that Amy Handlin has chosen to continue her career in the Assembly,” Marchese said of Handlin who, until this morning was in a race to replace Senator Joe Kyrillos with her district mate, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon. “Declan was always my guy to replace Senator Kyrillos.  The notion of losing two accomplished incumbents in the district, Kyrillos and either O’Scanlon or Handlin, in one election cycle was not ideal.

Breaking….Amy Handlin drops Senate bid, Will run for reelection for Assembly

Amy Handlin and Declan O’Scanlon

Breaking….MMM has learned that Assemblywoman Amy Handlin will not seek the Monmouth GOP endorsement for State Senate in the 13th Legislative District.  Handlin will seek the Party’s endorsement for the Assembly seat she currently holds.

Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon will be unopposed for the Party’s endorsement at the nominating convention on March 18.

A legislative slate of O’Scanlon for Senate and Handlin and Freeholder Serena DiMaso for Assembly is the likely outcome at the convention.
