Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said that his Law Enforcement Division, the Office of Emergency Management and homeland security personnel are on heightened alert as a precaution in response to the bombing at the Boston Marathon this afternoon.

There is no known specific threat in Monmouth County.

“We routinely patrol transit hubs like the ferry terminals and train stations, as well as they shopping malls, ” Golden said, “when an incident like what happened in Boston today occurs, we take additional precautions. We’ll be monitoring state and federal communications and be on heightened alert at least through tomorrow.  We have emergency response assets deployed throughout the county.”

Sheriff’s Office personnel will be meeting with the police departments of the communities that are hosting the May 5 New Jersey Marathon at the Shore to review security protocols, Golden added,

in these times, an EXPERIENCED Sheriff; one with a steady hand. Sheriff Golden got us thru Sandy and he’s the guy to be trusted to get us through worse, God forbid it should happen.

    As they say…

“When the phone rings at 3am, who do you want to answer the phone.”

“Stay the course, no need to change to someone who needs to be ramped up”

  2. Steadily getting ridiculous if you ask me said at 8:15 am on April 16th, 2013:

Experienced sheriff? The only thing I see steady here is the outrageous overtime figures year after year. It seems the overtime manages the sheriff; rather than the other way around.

  3. OK THEN MR. BRAINIAC said at 8:24 am on April 16th, 2013:

Riddle me this. Would you rather hire more people and have to pay more health insurance or just pay overtime without the extra insurance costs.

You guys like Jim sager are one issue nut cases and can’t look at the big picture. And if you don’t think Sean golden is experienced now after Hurricane sandy you’re the one with the problem

PART TIME – You want part time mall cops to guard criminals in our jail!? Have you been to the jail? It isnt the one that Andy and Barney put Otis the town drunk in down in Mayberry. It is full of Killers, Rapist and Drug Dealers.

It shouldnt be called a jail – it is a PRISON!

Dents my suggestion is call the Sheriff and get a tour!

  6. The Problem With Dents said at 9:54 am on April 16th, 2013:

Is that he doesn’t understand the difference between a prison and a national park, and that there is a difference between tourists and criminals.

  7. Privatize the damn thing! said at 1:09 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Thats all you have to do to save tons of money–whether it be salaries, pensions, benefits etc.

They do it elsewhere, whey can’t it be done here

When someone keeps repeating their lie over and over again–I guess it becomes belivable as the truth.

When someone has to tell me “he’s the guy to trust”–be careful! I have seen enough of this guy–as did others, that he is not to be trusted with taxpayer money. It’s time for a change.

    Enough said!

  9. @privatize said at 3:11 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Again – you cant run a maximum security prison with rent a cops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Privatizing can Work! Just have to Give it a Chance said at 5:21 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Rent a cops? Most of them are retired law enforcement professionals from state and county correctional facilities. There experienced, there good, and they come with earned pensions and good salaries provided by CCA. CCA assumes all liabilities, costs (including health and pension costs)

All Sheriff Golden has to do is get an assessment from this company–what is he afraid of? Why did he take that option off the table? He already has made it known he will not privatize.

  11. He won't privatize since then all said at 5:39 pm on April 16th, 2013:

of the patroniage jobs and double dipping will stop.

As far as rent a cops, CCA runs facilities for the Federal Bur of prisons, The US Marshals Service, ICE and about 30 other states. They build and run real MAXIMUM security prisons and have done so for 30 years.

When you state they are Rent a Cops you prove that you do not know what you are talking about. And let me tell you, you do not…………….

Please educate yourself before you spew the party line.

    Signed,

A fiscally conservative republican that’s knows a thing or two about prisons.

  12. Thank You! (to the above) said at 6:14 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Someone who knows what their talking about!

Lets get rid of corruption, waste and FRAUD. Sheriff Golden must go!! Remember: During his first year as “acting sheriff” he kept someone in a position that NEVER existed.

    Shame on us foolish taxpayers

    DAN PETERS FOR SHERIFF!!!!!

  13. When did we ever said at 9:12 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Have a Sheriff with a Masters degree in management, who is excellent in planning for the future in the 5 th largest county, with both his ever- difficult office, and the ever- complicated emergency management, for this big and diverse county? Go, Shaun, I have total confidence in you and your staff, jealous know- nothings notwithstanding!

  14. Name (required) said at 10:11 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Yeah, CCA, and the like, do a real good job, just ask those retires that we’re camping near one of their “well run” private jails. Wait..never mind, you can’t ask them, because their dead. They were murdered by 2 scumbag murderers that pretty much walked away from the “well run, secure” private jail. You get what you pay for.

  15. Name (required) said at 10:21 pm on April 16th, 2013:

Privatization of corrections in NJ will be as dead as Flippy D’Amico’s political career within the next five years. All it will take is a few more of their “walk offs” out of Delaney Hall and the other jokes of a srcure facility killing people. Eventually, even assholes like the previous poster who claims to know a thing or 2 about jailing will see it for the failure it is.

    WE WANT OLD JAIL GUARDS?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you lost your freaking minds?!!!!!!!!!

  18. @We have a Sheriff with a Masters Degree!! said at 11:58 am on April 17th, 2013:

This is what an above poster stated. SO WHAT!!! BIG DEAL!!! Nixon had a law degree–look where that got him: in trouble with Watergate resulting in his resignation; Bill Clinton: law degree and Oxford University student–where did that get him: impeached; although the senate refused to act on his removal. I can go on and on.

Some of our most educated in America participated in many stupid actions.

Golden is the highest law enforcement official in the county, and he is stupid to attend the April 30th fundraiser, with a convicted sexual and physical abuser of woman in attendance. Matter of fact, it was this blog that made me aware of this.

It should be noted that April is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month.

Mr. Golden may have a masters degree–but he is very wrong and stupid for attending this function.
