Sea Bright Library First Saturday Recital Will Celebrate Mother’s Day

IMG_1994 (800x670)May 7 is the first Saturday of the month which means the Sea Bright Library will be hosting its monthly organ recital and sing along.

Councilman Charlie Rooney launched the program earlier this year to give the organ pipes a workout and bring the community together to enjoy the library which is housed in the Sea Bright United Methodist Church.

Rooney has arranged for Judy Grimes to play the organ and lead the community in song. Grimes is bringing song books to help the participants sing along.

The public, from Sea Bright and beyond is welcome to attend.  The library opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, but don’t expect much quiet, as Rooney had the church’s chimes repaired and they will start serenading Ocean Ave when the library opens until Grimes starts singing and organizing.

The library was moved into the United Methodist Church after its former home was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.  When Rooney was working on the move with the church elders, he was struck by the beauty of the chapel.  He learned that the organ pipes would deteriorate unless used and arranged for the repair of the organ and launched this monthly program to preserve the treasure for the community.
