Golden Slams O’Scanlon’s Marijuana Effort

In a rare public disagreement among Monmouth County Republicans, Sheriff Shaun Golden, the Party Chairman, slammed Senator Declan O’Scanlon’s effort to win fiscal and public safety reforms from Governor Phil Murphy and Senate President Steve Sweeney in exchange for three Republican votes in the Senate to legalize recreational marijuana.

Golden took to twitter last night, calling the the proposal “typical Trenton”

Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, O’Scanlon’s running mate and district office partner in Bell Works, liked Golden’s tweet. DiMaso was Golden’s running mate in 2013 and 2016 and will likely be on the ballot with Golden this year. (Neither Golden nor DiMaso have announced their reelection intentions, but they are both expected to run for new terms in their respective offices this year)

MMM has been unable to reach O’Scanlon and Golden this morning. DiMaso said in a phone interview that she stands with the Sheriff on the marijuana issue. She’s opposed to legalizing recreational use.

“That’s one of the great things about our team,” DiMaso said. “We can disagree on certain issues yet still represent and serve our constituents well”

    Why do the Republicans always have to be the ones who cave, to try and get a right thing done, anyway? Everyone with a non- drug- addled brain knows full well that legalized pot in this state will be an unmitigated disaster, in many ways, with all the new slush monies being squandered away, again, because they cannot stop themselves from just throwing it away. Plus, law enforcement, medical people, public works, etc., will be stuck with more out-of-it people than we already have, more poisoned children, more accidents, more crap to clean up from public places..really doesn’t matter what Republicans in Trenton say or do anyway- we are unfortunately, basically, irrelevant…

    Gotta get past the joke- telling Bramnick: will be interesting, my feeling is that Bramnick should use his “ minority- leader” status and try and get back some legislative seats for us- don’t know how he is for money, am sure Shaun can raise a decent amount.. Hope it doesn’t get bloody, and weaken us, even further.. would be fun to see Sweeney try and primary The Murph: divide and conquer would be helpful…would be good if Gilmore gets past his tax problems: we need a untied Monmouth/ Ocean block, to make waves…Whitman and Christie would never have won in ‘93 and ‘09, without us, for sure!.. tired of North Jersey thinking they deserve things, when they haven’t really delivered very well, the past few cycles! Internal fighting/ egos would be a good thing to amp down,in the whole organization…eye on the prize, if you will…

    he really have statewide recognition though? It was telling how far he stayed away from Kim the last time, given their previous relationship. People around him sure think he should throw his hat in the ring.
