Cure Tea Party Phobia or How to Avoid a Primary
By “Teddy Roosevelt”
I have previously discussed what the “Tea Party” movement represents and the impact it is having on the National Republican Party. The next question is what does this mean for politicians at the State level in NJ.
Let me preface this by saying I am not a member of any Tea Party group nor have I ever attended a Tea Party rally. I do not speak for them. I am merely a student of Politics who happens to sympathize with much of what they stand for.
NJ politicians are scared witless of the Tea Party. They have infiltrated the County Committees. They helped Anna Little take out an anointed candidate. They helped Dave Corsi, a really poor candidate if truth be told; beat Scott Sipprelle in Monmouth County, almost costing him the nomination. Dam right the politicians are scared. They should be. Almost every legislator I have spoken too is worried about a Tea Party Challenger in the primary. Is this a real risk? I think it is. Can it be avoided? Yes it can. If the politicians think about what the Tea party wants and gives it to them. It is very simple. They want smaller government. Less spending, less regulation on businesses. Don't subsidize industries. Just get out of the way. I would also suggest that the public is tired of feel good legislation that doesn't really accomplish much even if it is named after a dead person. They are on to that scam. It would also be a good idea to stop wasting your time naming things after dead people and passing stupid resolutions. Government is a serious business start treating it as such. Finally don't have a job as a legislator and then make more money off political appointments or otherwise game the system. Simple really.
In an effort to help I have perused the websites of various Monmouth County legislators and picked out some examples of legislation they have sponsored that the Tea party may not like. I did not want to embarrass any one so I did not match names to legislation. In fairness these same legislators have also sponsored legislation that most Tea Party people would like. Here is the list but remember this is just my humble opinion. It would be great to hear what Tea Party people think about my list.
PROPOSED LEGISLATION THAT
1. Establishes “Grandparenting Resource Center Pilot Program” and appropriates $3,000,000.
2, Requires HMFA to prioritize projects affordable to extended family care givers; amends Fair Housing Act to allow funding to programs supporting extended family care.
3. Establishes Office of Airline Consumer Advocate and consumer bill of rights for airline passengers (MORE BEUACRACY ALERT)
4. Requires certain persons on boats less than 21 feet long to wear personal flotation device between November 1st and May 1st
5. Requires the design of new public schools to incorporate the “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) guidelines (UNFUNDED MANDATE ALERT)
6. Designates “Hail to New Jersey” as State song.
7. Establishes State Energy Council
8. Prohibits sale of candy that resembles a tobacco product
9. Prohibits all persons under 18 from using tanning facilities
10. Requires 12-hour behind-the-wheel course for special learner's permit.
11. Requires small employer health benefits plan carriers to offer a basic and essential plan.
12. Prohibits use of wireless telephones or electronic communication devices by operators of public transit vehicles while vehicles are moving.
13. Requires labeling of foods produced from cloned animals
14. Requires environmental sustainability plan for State House Complex
15. Establishes NJ Task Force on Records Privacy
16. Directs transfer of up to $22 million to support Main Street Business Assistance Program and provides for program's continuation; confers general power on EDA to collect certain fees
17. Designates September 15th of each year as “Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Day” in New Jersey.
* I will not bother listing all the different acts proposed to “save horse racing” HOW ABOUT JUST DEREGULATING IT?
HONORABLE MENTION TO RESOLUTIONS THAT
1. Praise the new program is called Temporary AIDS Supplemental Rebate and Federal Assistance Program
2. Call for a ban on off shore drilling.
Remember its simple, don't spend, stop over regulating, shrink government and stop screwing around and then you can stop worrying about the Tea Party. You have a whole year get moving!

I live in Neptune Township. I am ashamed to be represented in the New Jersey Legislature by 3 liberal Republicans. I certainly hope Tea Party candidates challenge Senator Kean, Assemblywoman Pat Angelini and “totally & permanently disabled” Assemblyman David Rible.
