Curley’s Censure on Monmouth County Freeholders’ Agenda

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders will hold a Special Executive Session and a Special Public Meeting on Monday December 4 to discuss a resolution updating, expanding and reinforcing the County’s policy on the prohibiting workplace discrimination and harassment and a resolution of censure of Freeholder John P. Curley, according to a meeting notice obtained by MMM.
MMM has learned that the County engaged a retired Superior Court Judge to investigate an employee’s harassment complaint against Curley. The months long investigation which was recently completed included testimony from five additional employees that Curley himself named when confronted with the original complaint.
Curley, who has not responded to a message requesting comment, has been banned from County property, except for official public functions, pending the outcomes of Monday’s meetings.

This is all getting so ridiculous. All of a sudden everyone’s a pedophile, stalker, woman abuser and what ever else that can be dreamed up. A man doesn’t even dare look at a woman and say hello with a smile without running the risk of being accused of something.
I do not believe that the Freeholders would have taken this unprecedented step of censuring a colleague for a hello and a smile or any unsubstantiated reason. Harassment and discrimination can come in many forms. I applaud the Board for taking action to ensure a safe working environment for Monmouth County employees. Our elected county officials have chosen integrity as their guide in making this decision! Thank you!
Ridiculous? Really? A man spends his entire tenure as a Freeholder verbally abusing female county employees and freeholders for no other reason then he is a bitter, lonely and miserable person. He has not done anything for the people of Monmouth County. When something positive happens he takes credit and badmouths his fellow Freeholders behind their backs (check out the East Jersey Tea Party video where he bashes Burry and Rich) and when a mistake is made he blames everyone else. He is a liar. The sooner he goes, the better for the taxpayers of Monmouth.
Not sure what this is all about. Many in this business have been accused of “not working well with others” but leadership is about getting things done for the people of Monmouth. Of course we must be polite and try and not let our personality interfere with the mission. There are 550,000 government employees in NJ, too many and they do not all have our interests at heart.
Freeholder Curley is tough and gregarious guy and very direct. I have found him to be very honest with the best interests of Monmouth County at all times. His bark is worse than his bite. If you have a sense of humor, you will appreciate his tactics and results.
I remind his critics:
1. He killed the ridiculous ripoff called the MC Pilot Assessment program. I still think people should have went to jail for this debacle.
2. He fights to add open space and recreation to places like Asbury Park and elsewhere. The people appreciate those efforts.
3. He was everywhere after Sandy.
4. John tended to have one speed, “full throttle”. He learned that doesn’t always work and adapted. I know for a fact, to get things done, he modified his sometimes combative ways to try and become a better team member of the our great Freeholder Board.
5. Worked to get veterans better access to our programs. Don’t take my word. Ask the veterans.
6. John Curley may be gruff at times but has big heart and good intentions. He also gets the job done.
7. The man reaches out to people like me (a Monmouth County Park Commissioner for 27 years) to ask how things work, to request we contact a constituent with an issue of problem, to bring up ideas like more “urban recreation”.
8. He always returns his calls.
9. The people like Freeholder John Curley. I know, I do.
If Freeholder Curley made some mistakes (we all do), he will learn from them and become a better Freeholder.
Men can be sexually harassed in the workplace by other men. It happens all the time.
That is going to be TWO new Freehold appointees by Feb 2018, and TWO (or will that be three) up for relection November 2018.
Could Cassagrande or McMarrow or Christine Hanlon be one of the new appointee-raplacments?
we must keep in mind that, if we want to not become Essex or Passaic or Hudson( given the fact that many of them move here and bring their bad voting habits with them,), we had better be politically smart, and do all we can, to not lose any seat. One thing electeds need to learn/ remember: they are each a placeholder for their party, and for their ideas of better governing: officials may come and go, but the goal needs to be control and winning, in order to do a better job for the taxpayers. Also, given the disaster of the 2017 elections, up and down the ballot, the last thing we need is dumb moves, knee- jerk reactions, and last- minute/ emotional decision- making. I wish the Freeholder the best, and I implore the party to be fair, legal, and smart.
Mike Harmon, there is no excuse for verbal abuse from antone to anyone especially from a so-called Community Leader. Period. Who does he think he is?
He tried to stop a transparent money saving Assessment program with lies, and justice prevailed, he wanted to be judge and jury with big political headlines, self-serving again.
He’s a blowhard. History proves that. Time to put in a stable person in place and replace him.. asap.
by the time this shakes out: better be proven vote- getters, with spotless backgrounds and positive records,who actually know something about our county, and have actually done things to help the organization, who can win, in another bad year!
While throwing around names of possible Freeholder hopefuls, my first choice is Susan Cohen: it makes so much sense to put a true, loyal, smart Western Monmouth leader on that board. Her long list of ongoing community service and accomplishments can likely not be exceeded. Her loyalty and assistance to the party are indisputable. Twice Vice Chair, always supportive: an intelligent, consistent, and calming, mature voice, in a turbulent time. A repeated vote- getter! Anyone who says something negative about a Cohen candidacy is either delusional, clueless, or plain jealous: when I grow up, I’d like to be Susan! Now, all we have to do is pry her away from the Manalapan she dearly loves, and let the other 52 towns find out how bright, cool, nice, and good she is! A win- win, fellow Republicans.
