Shuanita Foskey, 48, of Norwood Ave in Long Branch, was charged with calling in a false bomb threat to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office in Freehold, according to an announcement by Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Foskey is accused of calling the Prosecutor’s switchboard on Friday afternoon, January 19, and claiming a bomb was on the premises that would explode shorty. The Jersey Ave building was evacuated. Bomb sniffing K-9 units from Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean County Sheriff’s Offices and the New Jersey Transit Police Department were deployed and determined that the threat was false. Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty is slated to become the Chairman and Chief Administrator of the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission, according to multiple unsourced reports.
Governor Murphy has not yet nominated Doherty for the position, which requires the advice and consent of the Senate, according to the Legislature’s website.
Doherty is in the final year of his second term as mayor of the borough.

Congressman Frank Pallone
Despite his rhetoric against the U.S. government shutdown, Congressman Frank Pallone voted against the continuing resolution which reopened the government after giving ‘non-essential’ federal employees an unscheduled three day weekend.

Freeholder Director Tom Arnone speaks at the NJTPA Board Meeting – Jan 22, 2018
Monmouth County has been awarded $1.6 million in federal funds from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) for the design and construction of road improvements in Holmdel and and Upper Freehold, according to an announcement by Freeholder Director Tom Arnone. The award was approved at a NJTPA meeting in Newark this morning.

A team of trained volunteers and Monmouth County employees will be in Asbury Park, Freehold, Keansburg and Red Bank on Wednesday, January 24 to conduct the County’s NJ Counts 2018 survey of citizens without a permanent residence and those at risk for becoming homeless. The point in time survey is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s annual effort to get an accurate snapshot of the homeless in America.

Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ4) presented U.S. Navy veteran Bill Kelly with a U.S. Flag which had flown over the Capitol during a celebration of the WWII hero’s 93rd birthday earlier this week at the Claremont Center in Pt. Pleasant.
Kelly served on the U.S.S. Laffey during World War Two. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received in battle on board the ship on April 16, 1945, when the Laffey endured a large-scale kamikaze air attack by Japanese planes. Read the rest of this entry »

Four inmates at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution got their high school diplomas today through an online program administered by the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission, according to a press release from Sheriff Shaun Golden.
“I am gratified by the commitment made by today’s graduates to use their time at MCCI in a constructive manner that will benefit them for the rest of their lives,” said Sheriff Golden. “The wrong choices that brought the graduates to MCCI have provided these individuals the opportunity to make right choices about furthering their education and changing their lives.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sue Kiley and Gerry Scharfenberger are likely GOP running mates for Monmouth County Freeholder
Middletown Township Committeeman Gerry Scharfenberger is the only declared candidate for the Monmouth County Freeholder seat vacated by Serena DiMaso taking office as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. The Monmouth County Republican County Committee is scheduled to fill the vacancy in a special election/convention on February 3 at iPlayAmerica in Freehold Township.
Hazlet Deputy Mayor Sue Kiley is seeking the GOP nomination for the full freeholder term of the seat currently held by disgraced Freeholder John P. Curley.
