Art G discusses the Trenton Budget Circus with Tommy G this afternoon

The budget battle is Trenton is heating up as Governor Phil Murphy is threatening to shut down the government if the legislature doesn’t give him all the tax increases he wants.  Democrats and Republicans in the legislature are talking to each other in preparation of a possible override of Murphy’s threatened veto.  Former Governor Chris Christie is in the mix!

The Trenton budget circus is wilder than it has been since..well since last June when the government shut down while Christie went to the beach.

MMM publisher Art Gallagher will be on the Tommy G Show live this afternoon at 4:06 to give Tommy’s listeners an update on the shenanigans. Read the rest of this entry »

To combat hate, share your love

By Art Gallagher

August 12, 1958 was a big day in my mother’s life. I don’t even remember it

I’ve intentionally stayed out the the raging debate over the terrible events in Virginia last weekend and the adequacy, or lack thereof, of President Trump’s response to them.

I consider most of the ranting, from both the left and the right, to be bullshit political posturing, or ass covering, that will make no positive difference at all in improving our quality of life. It won’t make a positive difference how we relate to people who don’t look like us, dress like us or talk like us.  On the contrary, the raging narrative in the media seems to be increasing our divisions.

The best result, so far, of the current media narrative is that we are apparently no longer on the verge of nuclear war with the crazy fat kid in North Korea and the Russians are apparently no longer attempting to hijack our republic.

I’m inviting my little corner of the Internet to use the upset caused by recent events to create some love and harmony. I think its contagious.

Art G Joins Tommy G on the radio this afternoon

MMM publisher Art Gallagher will be on the air with Tommy G this afternoon during the 4 o’clock hour.

The Tommy G Show is broadcast in Central New Jersey on 1450 AM WCTC, on the Internet by clicking this link and via the TuneIn app on your smartphone.

Tommy’s show is always good for laughs and provocative conversation about local, state and national news. Likely topics today are the New Jersey Gubernatorial primaries, President Trump, the proposed legislation to legalize marijuana in New Jersey, education funding in New Jersey or something completely different…we never know what is going to come up.

Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik usually calls in when Art is on with Tommy, but he probably won’t today because he’s six months late in paying off bet and buying the Jersey G’s dinner at Cuzin’s Seafood Clam Bar.  Someone else might call in and surprise us.

Shameful fake news: The Asbury Park Press targets local officials with personal problems

By Art Gallagher

On a website promoting his novels, the Senior Regional Content Strategist for The Asbury Park Press says “he gives thanks everyday to New Jersey’s long-line of corrupt officials.”  On another website, the content strategist (Gannett’s 21st century term for “editor”) claims “he has exposed political corruption, insider deals, deadly medical mistakes, bureaucratic bumbling, and wasteful government spending.”

That’s important work.

But lately there must be a shortage of corruption. The Asbury Park Press has taken to publicizing the personal financial problems of municipal officials instead. There has been no evidence reported that those local officials did anything criminal or corrupt while experiencing those financial problems or as a result of them.  In the two recent stories of elected officials’ personal finances, the problems have been going on for years and agreements have been made with the creditors for the successful resolution of the personal issues.

The Day I Met Ethel Kennedy, Art Buchwald And Gary Coleman

By Art Gallagher

This story in the New York Post about how Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert F. Kennedy, messed up the lives of her children, according to biographer Jerry Oppenheimer, reminded me of the day some 37 years ago that I met Ethel and two of her sons.

When I was in college I had a part time gig as the mascot for the Washington,DC professional soccer team, The Diplomats. The costume was Philly Phanatic/San Diego Chicken like. The Diplomaniac looked like a bear or an aardvark with blue fur. It had a soccer ball at the end of its long nose that was connected to an elastic strap so kids could pull it. Big white soccer shoes, a red jersey and a beanie with a propeller on top.

It was insufferably hot inside of that costume whenever the temperature was greater than seventy degrees.  But it was a fun gig.

Amick: Could upcoming Port Authority override vote break Christie’s long veto streak?

assetContent (56)Gov. Chris Christie has a remarkable winning streak going, one unmatched by any other New Jersey governor. He’s vetoed more than 350 bills during his five-plus years in Trenton, according to a Wall Street Journal count. And, in spite of the fact that the Legislature is controlled by the Democrats, a party other than his own,… Read the rest of this entry »
