Monmouth Dems hate group celebrates womens’ right to vote?
Today is Women’s Equality Day; a celebration of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted women the right to vote.
This is a cause for celebration indeed, especially in Monmouth County where the Republican Party has a strong history of nominating and electing women to serve in office at the County and State level. Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Amy Handlin, County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, Surrogate Rosemary Peters, Freeholder Director Lillian Burry and Freeholder Serena DiMaso are all home grown Monmouth County Republicans who serve with distinction. Monmouth County Republican Chairman Shaun Golden issued a statement this morning congratulating newly elected Assemblyman Ned Thomson on his victory at the special election last evening and thanking all involved for a successful and orderly convention.
“Congratulations to Assemblyman Thomson. I personally thank Ned for his willingness to take on the rigors of being a legislator as well as the demanding community and political commitments the job requires. Ned doesn’t need to do this. Former Wall Township Mayor Ned Thomson was elected to the State Assembly representing the 30th legislative district tonight at a special election convention of the LD 30 County Committee.
With 83 votes from the 154 delegates present, Assemblyman Thomson easily surpassed the 50% +1 requirement to be elected.
Justin Flancbaum, the Executive Director of the Lakewood Municipal Utility Authority received 53 votes. Former Belmar councilman Jim Bean received 18. Read the rest of this entry »
So there it is, finally out in the open. In his comments to MMM regarding his endorsement of Mr. Flancbaum for the LD 30 Assembly position, Senator Singer is quoted as saying, “ I had to defend my county “ ( Ocean ). I’m confused, I thought this Assembly seat, as well Senator Singer’s position, was about the representation at the state level of the residents, businesses and taxpayers of the 14 municipalities comprising LD 30, 12 of which are in Monmouth County.
Monmouth County Freeholder Gary Rich and Wall Township Board of Education member Ralph Addonizio will not be on the ballot on Monday night when the GOP County Committee select a candidate to fill Dave Rible’s seat in the General Assembly.
In an email to Wall Township County Committee members, Addionizo wrote, “I just wanted everyone to know that I had a meeting with Shaun Golden this afternoon at my request. Singer told MMM that his endorsement of Flancbaum was prompted by Kean’s nod to Thomson. “I intended to stay out of the race,” Singer said in a phone interview, “but when Sean jumped in, I had to defend my county.”
Assemblyman Sean Kean has endorsed former Wall Township Mayor Edward “Ned” Thomson to be is running mate and colleague in the Assembly.
Thomson is competing to fill the vacancy created by Dave Rible’s resignation from the Assembly upon being sworn in as the Director of the New Jersey Division of Alcohol Beverage Control. The vacancy will be filled on Monday August 14 at a convention of the LD 30 County Committee to be held at the IBEW Local 400 union hall in Wall.
Five candidates have emerged to fill the vacancy in the State Assembly in the 30th Legislative District created by Dave Rible’s resignation to become the Director of the Alcohol Beverage Commission.
Rible, 49 of Wall Township, was the Assembly Republican Conference Leader until his July 17th resignation. The GOP County Committees from the 30th Legislative District will select a candidate to fill vacancy and take Rible’s place on the general election ballot at a convention that is tentatively scheduled for August 9 at the IBEW #400 Union Hall in Wall. The 30th District is comprised of Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar, Bradley Beach,Brielle, Farmingdale, Howell, Lake Como, Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Heights, and Wall in Monmouth County as well as Lakewood and Point Pleasant in Ocean County.
