Buono: Christie is too focused on Sandy recovery

Buono Dawn Quixote2State Senator Barbara Buono, the presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, told urban residents that Governor Chris Christie is too focused on rebuilding New Jersey after Superstorm Sandy, according to a Star Ledger report.

Christie, she said, had focused too much on rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy, while the cities have been suffering for years under his economic policies.

“There’s a whole other New Jersey that needs to be rebuilt,” Buono told a crowd in Irvington, vowing to reverse many of the Republican governor’s moves.

In a little more than three years in office, Christie’s economic policies are responsible for the condition of our cities?  Christie is not working to improve the quality of life in our cities?

The Democratic Mayor of Camden, Dana Redd, seems to disagree:

Transcript:

Camden Mayor Dana Redd: To our Governor Chris Christie, and you’ve often heard him say this when we’ve stood side-by-side on matters of importance, of education, of Renaissance Schools, public safety and now public education. He’s often talked about, listen, I didn’t get but 28 votes out of Camden but that’s not why I’m doing this.

Senate President Stephen Sweeney: It was actually 27.

Governor Chris Christie: You think so? Recount.

Camden Mayor Dana Redd: We’re going to have a recount. But I have great respect for this man who can put partisan politics aside and put public policy first and put people first, and not to forget urban centers in New Jersey. So we want to thank you Governor for your continued partnership and support. Welcome our Governor, again, with a round of applause.

Governor Chris Christie: I truly believe this is a transformational moment for both the city of Camden and Camden County. Most importantly for the people, the children, the families, and the neighborhoods that they live in, here in Camden. What you and the Freeholder Board have done, led by Director Cappelli, took great courage, real conviction and perseverance to get us to this moment in time. A jumping off point to do something bold and necessary to address and expand upon the system that we have now, address those problems and bring law enforcement to the city, a city that deserves far better than what it’s been getting. Let me emphasize, this was not about choosing sides in a labor management dispute or about bringing about change for the sake of change. This was about responsible, caring leaders recognizing some undeniable truths about Camden City’s law enforcement needs. That we had calcified organization, failing in its basic, solemn obligation to serve and protect the people of this city. It was also about what a city trying hard to lift itself up and do what it could afford to do now and what it inspires to do in the years ahead. Through this agreement between the county and the city, we can now count on a larger, rejuvenated police force genuinely dedicated, I believe, to helping to restore neighborhoods, taking them back from criminals and making mothers and fathers comfortable in the simple pleasure and expectation of seeing their children safely playing in their own neighborhoods.

How insulting and clueless can this woman be?

she can’t handle his having front stage and getting the publicity that comes with an event of epic proportions. No matter what they try and bring up, this is still the most important thing to fix in our state, and will be for a long time to come. Just hope we can change the dynamic of at least one house, too, they are such downers, and are holding NJ back.

  3. Why Isn't said at 2:49 pm on May 5th, 2013:

The vaunted BSTPG and Leigh Ann Bellew attacking this candidate? After all, the Bayshore & Union Beach especially were hard hit.

Why? The BSTPG would rather attack it’s own Republicans.

I like Christie, but here is my take on this Camden County Police force. The democrats gave the old Camden City police unions everything they wanted for years, and now they need to repeat the process, this time county wide. This is just an attempt to start over and then enrich a new set of folks (not the cops but the union big wigs and the polls that pull the strings). I also think this is a bone that is thrown to Norcross to keep him from putting money behind Buono.

because Buono does not have one.

Does she get that taxes collected from tourism from the Jersey Shore find there way into the State Treasury to be “redistributed” to the Cities that she says are being ignored.

Lets see NJ has a 7 percent sales tax. All revenues are deposited into the State treasury. None of this money goes to the towns.

Lets see NJ has a 7 percent Hotel and Occupancy tax. This revenue is deposited into the State Treasury.

Oh does she know about the Atlantic City Luxury Tax of 9%. Much of this is collected from vacationers that are staying in nearby shore towns and go to AC for a day or week end.

Lets see, all the business owners that can not open if the shore is not rebuilt can not earn money and pay income tax. They can not hire employees that pay income tax.

This candidate does not have a clue. I think even the Dems are shaking their heads…….

I guess Buono is just concerned about that poor little spider….I mean after all it’s what is important…(sarcasm of course).
