NJEA Spending Teachers Dues On Anti-Christie Ads
The New Jersey Education Association has launched an advertising campaign to encourage people to “Tell Christie he’s done enought to help millionaires.”
There is a full page ad on the back page of section A in the print edition of the Asbury Park Press (which is how using the header THE PRESS). Capitol Quickies reports that the ad also appeared in the Home News Tribune, Daily Record and Courier News, all Gannett owned papers.
The ad says “Governor Christie cut our schools, women’s health care and our public safety to give a tax break to millionaires” and touts their website, MillionairesForChristie.com. The website encourages readers to email their legislators to “to let them know that you’re against Governor Christie helping millionaires. Its time to protect our schools!”
Readers of the site can also sign a petition to Governor Christie and preview a TV ad that repeats the nonsense.
I wonder why the NJEA waited until after the school board elections to launch this advertising campaign.
Governor Christie has not given any tax breaks to millionaires. The Democrats let the millionaires tax surcharge expire before Christie took office. Christie vetoed the reinstatement of the tax last year, just as he promised he would in his campaign.

I’ve always wondered if teachers would complain if their dues went into a lottery of sorts that was then split and won by a dozen teachers a year, making them millionaires who could then retire, instead of paying dues to run political attack ads and getting no sympathy from the public for their misguided attacks.
…not that I think the NJEA union leaders would actually want to do anything to improve the lives of a single teacher, never mind a dozen of them, nor would I personally trust them to be competent and honest enough to run a fair lottery for their members.
Just a thought.
surprised??.. this has been going on for time immemorial..any candidate who steps up and finally MAKES ALL unions disclose, by law, all their political contributions, and stops them from doing mailings to public employees for Democrat candidates, gets my ,for calling these spades, spades, and tying their hands, once and for all!
The ads might not be coming out of dues money. There is an NJEA-Pac that teachers can donate to and that’s where most (if not all) of the funds come from…of course this is just what a few teachers have told me, I have no idea if they’re right or wrong.
M.Ward,
The disclosure on the ad and the website says “Paid for by the NJEA”
When parents make ridiculous charges against teachers– who pays their legal fees? Taxpayers? No. The teacher? Who can afford that on a teacher’s salary.
NJEA provides it for free.
When we get rid of nutty, lunatic parents– we can get rid of NJEA. And since all of you are not teachers, but evidently experts on teaching, teachers and education– You already know this.
Is the ad factually incorrect?
It is not, is it. That IS exactly what the Gov. did—
Btw, did you taxes go down? Mine did not..but class size went up significantly in my children’s school. I am NOT happy– so we mothers banned together and made sure the budget passed.
Now, as everyone has commented, the union is showing what a political machine it is, how it is a money-making and money-spending machine. They’re really taking a chance sticking their neck out now at a time where non-union citizens are getting fed up with them. This could backfire on them and add fuel to the movement to reign them in.
I didn’t vote for Christie last time but since NJEA has started their add campain I have started to love him! I am so sick of NJEA adds that I will vote for him next time for sure. Keep up the good work Gov.!!!!
